DETAILS OF NIGHT MEETING THAT SAVED MATIANGI
According to credible sources, his release was arranged during a Sunday evening meeting that included several prominent major figures from the Kisii region including Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, former Interior CS Matiang’i, and others.
After their meeting, Noordin Haji, the head of the Office of Director of Public Prosecution, released a press release on Monday through his deputy Lilian Obuo announcing the dismissal of the two charges against him: conspiracy to commit a felony and false publication of information about an alleged police raid at his Karen home.
In the four-hour meeting, which was attended by the solicitor general, Shadrack John Mose, the former Kitutu Chache MP Jimmy Angwenyi, the businessmen Jared Kangwana and John Simba, the former Bonchari MP Zebedeo Opore, and the president of the SDA Church in East and Central Africa, Blasious Ruguri.
It was discussed how to push for his release and end the political harassment he was experiencing.
The Gusii region’s cohesion and its plans to cooperate with the Kenya Kwanza government were other topics of debate.
Conversation also turned to Matiang’i’s anticipated prayer gathering in Nyamira.
Since the president might be attending a similar event in Kisii County at the same time, it was decided that in order to demonstrate his willingness to reach an agreement with William Ruto, he would have to cancel the event.
But, according to some sources, Matiang’i had actually stretched out to Ruto in an effort to shake his hand.
The president was compelled to assign Machogu to meet with Matiang’i, claims North Muringaro MP Joash Nyamache, as a result of the former strong CS’s outreach.
