Nelson Havi has been replaced as the President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) in the latest changes.
The changes follow a statement released by the LSK branch caucus, that declared Linda Kiome (Mt. Kenya Branch, Caucus Chair) to take over all the responsibilities that were being handled by Havi as the president of the society.
The caucus is set to take charge of LSK till the end of the current regime that lapses in March.

This follows a High court order that nullified the suspension of CEO Mercy Wambua and other council members ordering the society to convene a meeting within 21 days failure to which a caucus would take over.
“If council remains dysfunctional and not able to conduct business, the Chairs Caucus shall take over the functions of the council with the Chair of the Branch exercising powers of the president of LSK for the remainder of the term ” Justice Mrima ordered.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, January 12, Havi noted that his decision to quit LSK had been informed by his bid to become Westlands Member of Parliament in the upcoming August General election.
He is planning to vie on that seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket that is affiliated with Deputy President William Ruto.
He further stated that he will issue an official statement on Thursday, January 13, confirming his decision to leave LSK.
The new leadership was formed after Havi failed to convene a meeting as directed by the judge with the said period lapsing on Monday, January 10.
“In our meeting today, we received confirmation from the LSK Secretariat that the Council has been unable to convene a meeting in compliance with the directions given by the court. In default thereof and pursuant to the said decision, the Branch Chairs Caucus has with effect from the 11th January 2022 taken charge of the role of the Council for the remainder of the term of the Council” the statement by the chair Mathew Nyabena, explained.
The statement from the caucus added, “The Branch Chairs Caucus also took into consideration the decision by Justice Mrima that once the Caucus takes over the role of the Council none of the current of the Council including the Secretary shall in any manner whatsoever deal with any of the affairs of the Law Society of Kenya in their respective capacities as members of the Council and or Secretary as the case may be.”
Other members of the caucus who will be helping Kiome in carrying out his mandates include Mathew Nyabena (Coast Branch, Caucus Vice-Chair), Eric Theuri ( Nairobi branch, Caucus Treasurer), Justus Mutia ( South Eastern Branch, Caucus secretary).
The leaders will be aiming at restoring order in the society before another election is held.
