MP Insults Speaker Wetangula in Parliament

A dramatic scene unfolded on Wednesday on the floor of the house as members of parliament debated a motion presented by a petitioner seeking government houses to be given to the rightful owners.

A Kenyan citizen petitioned the parliament complaining how houses built by the government have been invaded by tycoons denying the rightful persons a chance to enjoy the rare privilege. The houses are usually meant for government employees working in low job groups but end up benefitting rich people.

While ventilating on the matter, Mavoko lawmaker Patrick Makau said that in his constituency there are such houses in a place called Mlolongo. He agreed with the petitioner that the houses were benefitting the rich.

“In Mlolongo there are such kind of houses. And it’s true the houses have been benefitting the tycoons instead of the rightful owners. I therefore understand the pain of the petitioner and this house must act swiftly to ensure that the houses go back to the rightful owners,” alluded the legislator.

The Mavoko lawmaker went ahead and mistakenly insulted the speaker saying shame on him. The statement was supposed to go to those tycoons who have invaded houses of the poor but the MP ended up addressing the speaker.

“Shame on you, Mr speaker.” Said Makau forcing Wetangula to intervene. “You are telling the speaker shame on him?” Asked Wetangula.

The parliamentarian withdrew the statement and made a clarification. He stated that he was addressing the invaders of government houses.

“I am sorry Mr Speaker, I withdraw. Shame on the invaders,” clarified Makau.
