Country is in mourning after Kenyan longest serving surgeon dies.
Dr Zephaniah Kamau Mwangi, famously known as the Police Surgeon died on Tuesday, November 2 aged 61.
He died at the Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted.
The family in a statement said that a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the All Cathedral in Nairobi on Thursday, October 11.
“Meetings are currently ongoing at Magomano Hotel daily from 6:30pm and at his home in Lang’ata,” the family said.
A source toldK24 Digitalthat the father of seven had various parts of his body failing and has been unwell for months now.
Dr Mwangi served in the police medical examination reports-p3 forms for more than 30 years.
His career has been all rosy and for the 32 years, he worked with the police service he was responsible for conducting medical examinations on various people of physical and sexual assault.
The officer is known to be hard-working served in various counties which include Machakos, Kiambu, Kajiado and Nairobi.
Early this year, in an interview with a local station, he said that he usually goes through a tight schedule since he is needed to sign P3 forms and still testify in a number of cases in court.
“I usually divide my time based on the official schedule. This means I will ensure I attend to at least 100 people in a day and also go to court to testify to cases,” Dr Mwangi said.
As soon as he cleared his studies from the Nairobi University where he studies Degree in Medicine, Dr Mwangi was lucky to get a job at the Ministry of Health by the government.
However, he says, he really wanted to join the police service and this saw him join the armed forces.
The government could award him a job as a doctor within the service in 1989.
