RUTO- RAILA TEAM ANNOUNCES DATE FOR REFERENDUM

The bipartisan committe that brings together leaders from both the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio coalitions have today cleared the air on whether their will be a referendum after the conclusion of bipartisan talks.

In a joint press briefing after today’s meeting held at the Bomas of Kenya, the team was forced to clear the air over the issue after revealing that they have reached a conclusion to have the bipartisan talks completed within 60 days.

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo, who also doubles up as the co-chair of the bipartisan committe, had announced that the committee agreed on the time-frame of 60 days to conclude the talks after the Azimio wing proposed a time-frame of 30 days while the Kenya Kwanza wing proposed 90 days.

It was after the committee had revealed some of the issues tabled by the opposition and the Kenya Kwanza wings that one of the reporters seeking clarification on whether some of the issues may force Kenyans to go for a referendum after the conclusion of the discussions.

In response, co-chair of the bipartisan team Otiende Amollo clarified that all the issues raised by the two sides have been tabled and they will be forced to have a substantive deliberation before they can reach a conclusion on whether some of the issues will require an amendment through the Parliament or through a referendum.

“We have tabled the issues and we will engage in a substantive discussion. It is only after the end of the discussions that we can determine whether some of the issues will require an amendment and whether the amendments require a referendum,” Otiende responded (from 8 minutes to 10 minutes of the video).
