MATIANG’I TO ARREST THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has called for the arrest and prosecution of culprits behind the Friday attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga’s entourage in Uasin Gishu County.
In a statement to newsrooms, Dr. Matiang’i condemned the incident terming it as regrettable.
“My attention has been drawn to the stoning and the resultant damage of a helicopter and motor vehicles associated with the Azimio presidential candidate, the Rt Hon Raila Odinga, during the funeral service of Mzee Jackson Kibor in Uasin Gishu County today.
“The regrettable incident is a sad and atavistic reminder of the ugly face of violent political intolerance that our beloved motherland has worked hard to consign to the annals of a painful history in the last 14 years,” reads the statement.
The CS added: “I call upon the National Police Service to investigate the matter and ensure that all the culprits and their masterminds are made to swiftly and decisively face the consequences of their criminal actions.”
ODM leader Raila Odinga’s chopper was on Friday pelted with stones by rowdy youth in Kabenes, Uasin Gishu County.
Odinga and other leaders allied to the Azimio La Umoja movement were in the area to attend the burial of businessman Jackson Kibor.
“In the event that took place at Kabenes in Uasin Gishu, youth attacked my plane, destroying the air shield with rocks that were clearly aimed at me. On my way to the plane, they had pelted my vehicles with stones,” said Odinga in a statement.
He added: “My mistake was to attend the burial of my long time friend Mr. Jackson Kibor. I thank the security officers who did everything to ensure our safety.”
Odinga described the attack as politically instigated, blaming his rivals for the attack.
