Identity of the Suspect Who Killed Athlete Kiplagat
Police in Eldoret have apprehended two suspects linked to the murder of renowned Kenyan athlete Benjamin Kiplagat.
Moiben Sub-County Police Commander Stephen Okal disclosed that one suspect was captured in Uasin Gishu County, while the second was traced to Trans Nzoia County. The arrest followed a meticulous review of CCTV footage from the night of the incident.
The suspects, who will face charges related to Kiplagat’s murder in court on Tuesday, were found in possession of a knife believed to be the murder weapon.
Kiplagat, a dominant force in the men’s 3,000 meters Steeplechase event, was tragically discovered dead inside his vehicle during the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to Okal, the assailants intercepted Kiplagat’s journey using a motorcycle, committed the crime, and hastily fled the scene.
The police commander emphasized that the suspects had recently been involved in various criminal incidents, underscoring their potential danger to the community.
Detectives are diligently working to unveil the motive behind the brutal murder, examining Kiplagat’s routine, which often included late-night meetings with fellow athletes in Elgeyo Marakwet before heading home.
