First 2027 Presidential candidate to Declare His Bid
Veteran gospel singer Reuben Kigame has declared his bid for the 2027 presidential election.
In a Facebook post, Kigame said it is not too early to declare his intentions in the race to clinch the countries top seat.
“Why would it be right for others to already start campaigning and then wrong for me to declare my intentions? This Kenya is for us all, “the post read in part.
He says his 2022 presidential bid was merely interrupted, not stopped.
In 2022, Kigame was barred from getting to the ballot after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) said he failed to meet the threshold. Kigame accused the then Chebukati -led commission of “violating his constitutional rights despite being a person living with a disability.”
The Huniachi hitmaker believes that he has the answer to what ails Kenya. Creating a biblical allusion of himself with Esther, he says “My team and I are alive for a time such as this.”
“Kenya Kwanza and Azimio are not the only choices we can have as you have been made to imagine and believe. There is a third authentic, people-centred option.”
In a 24-point agenda, he promises: to choose professionals of character to form the next government, promote devolution and increase of funds to the counties while demanding greater accountability for such funds, work towards free education for all our children, ensure accessible and quality healthcare for all, stop economic haemorrhage and punish/jail those who engage in theft of national resources, among others.
Kigame is no stranger to politics. He vied for the Vihiga gubernatorial seat in 2013 and came fourth position. He sought the presidential seat in 2022, and now declaring intention in 2027, believing that clean-up starts with the top leadership.
Kigame has made a clarion call to all wishing to support his presidential bid.
“Fund us. Campaign for us. Believe in this new way of doing government. It is possible and it is on offer.”
