DP RUTO AND RAILA RECEIVES A STRANGE WARNING FROM KENYANS.

A group of Maa youth drawn from different universities across the country are now threatening to withdraw their support for the two frontrunners in President Uhuru Kenyatta succession race, over what they term as victimization of former Laikipia North legislator, Mathew Lempurkel.

The youth, who were speaking on Maa TV, an online broadcasting network, said they were ashamed of the community’s leadership for failing to defend one of their own.

“We would wish to ask our leaders to kindly come out and speak for Lempurkel, he has been jailed for a whole year and no alternative of even a fine. Something that is not good at all,” one of the students stated.

The youth threatened to withdraw their support for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, and Deputy President William Ruto, accusing the two of remaining silent at the time of their need.

“Lempurkel has been a long supporter of the right honorable Prime Minister Raila Odiga. We don’t understand why he has decided to remain silent. Lempurkel has been his loyal supporter from the day he (Raila) declared his interest to lead the country.

“The Masai’s have been loyal supporters of Raila Odinga and there is no need for us to keep quiet when we know there is someone who can bail Lempurkel out,” added the students.

The youth also called on all aspiring candidates from the region and nationally to throw their weight behind the quest to have the Legislator released on free bond or given an alternative of a fine.

“How dare you celebrate in your villages holding campaigns regularly when Lempurkel is suffering?” they posed.

Others, however, felt that the judgment was not in the interest of the justice system noting that the matter would have been resolved by community elders.

“This is a case that could have been handled by the village elders instead of taking it so serious to an extent of not giving him a fine option.”

The youth have vowed to stage demonstration in Nairobi beginning Monday to demand for retrial of the former MP.  

Lempurkel was charged with assault after he slapped the current Laikipia North MP, Sarah Korere, on November 21, 2016, at Harambee House, Nairobi.
