Azimio MP Dumps Raila After Arrest.
An Azimio lawmaker has condemned the countrywide demonstrations called by his coalition party.
West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka said he will not advocate for hooliganism going on in the country in the name of protests, maintaining he fully supports the government of the day.
Mogaka said the ongoing anti-government protests are unwarranted because of the destruction and looting that has been witnessed.
He says his intention is to have development for the people of his constituency which cannot be achieved through demonstrations.
The Jubilee MP said there is no need to have property looted and destroyed in the name of having a peaceful demonstration something which he said has paralysed business in most parts of the country and caused injuries and deaths.
“The demonstrations are allowed but the destruction and looting of property we are currently experiencing are not part of the constitutional requirements of a demonstration,” Mogaka said.
“Therefore, I cannot be part of an idea that is aimed at causing chaos, bringing businesses to a standstill and crippling our economy.”
The MP spoke at Motagara Girls Secondary School on Thursday when he presided over a prize-giving ceremony for the best students in last year’s exams.
He told off some MCAs and leaders who are questioning his support for the Finance Act saying the only way development can be realised is when the leaders support government initiatives.
The MP said he is part of the many leaders who are supporting the government’s agenda of ensuring development is achieved.
“I do not support the government for my own interests but for the interests of the many residents of West Mugirango who want development,” the legislator said.
“If you want to fight the government, please do it from your side and count me out because I am development oriented that’s why I must work with the government of the day.”
He called upon the youth not to be used by greedy individuals to destroy property in the name of demonstrating saying there is a procedure to petition the government.
Further Mogaka alleged that those being used to cause unrest in many parts of the country in demonstrations are not real demonstrators but criminals who are focused on looting, destroying property and killing innocent Kenyans going on with their businesses.
“Why should we call them demonstrators, these are thugs who are being facilitated to steal other people’s hard-earned living and cause unnecessary panic to the peaceful citizens,” he said.
“I urge the police to deal with such characters who want to drag us backwards.”
