MOSES KURIA ANGRY MESSAGE TO WILLIAM RUTO
A storm is brewing in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, led by Deputy President William Ruto, over whether the outfit should go alone in the 2022 General Elections or strike an alliance with like-minded parties.
At the centre of the storm are DP Ruto’s trusted allies led by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, who is CCK party leader, and former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, party leader TSP.
The two leaders have openly endorsed Deputy President for the top seat in the 2022 polls and at the same time positioned themselves as potential running mates.
Their hope of using their parties to negotiate for power with DP Ruto was dealt a huge blow after the DP recently said in an interview that he is not keen on forming any coalition but rather building his UDA party to national status.
However, MP Kuria has come out to dismiss the DP’s statement saying the Mt Kenya region must have its political party in the 2022 General Elections.
The Gatundu South MP stated that the Mt Kenya region has sacrificed enough for the DP and should therefore be allowed to have its own party going forwards with being labelled tribalists.
“I think is unfair and we have already agreed for the first time in 30 years that we are not going to have someone on top of the ticket. Now we agree on that then you still want to deny us a chance to have a party. It is unfair, unacceptable; I don’t care whether I am shut out of government, this or next one, but I will stand on this one,” he said.
According to Kuria, the Mt Kenya region risks being left out of government if they fail to coalesce around a single party that they will be usedd to negotiate for power in the 2022 polls.
He added that the journey to unite the vote-rich region under one fit is not only on course but also unstoppable.
“If we are not careful as the Mt Kenya Region, we are going to be spectators of the Mashemeji derby between Gor Mahia and FC Leopards. We are going to be spectators of the Olympics,” Kuria said.
“I am speaking for millions of people who want jobs that are going to advance for roads, our business, milk, tea and rice in Kirinyaga. Let nobody call us tribal because it is our rights na hatubanduki on this particular so tuzoeane mapema,” he added.
The remarks by Kuria paints a picture of simmering conflict in Hustler Nation given that a section of Ruto allies from the Mt Kenya region has opposed plans to form regional parties.
