TEN POLITICIANS FOUND DEAD. OOH NO!

The year 2022 was full of activity for the East African Country called Kenya.

It is the year that we experienced the most competitive and advanced election unlike any other that has been witnessed since the country gained independence.

From the activities, one of the things that happened was the deaths of various senior politicians who in one way or another were darlings to many and enemies to others.

The Star has compiled a list of some of the politicians who passed away this year;

  1. Retired President Mwai Kibaki

Former President Mwai Kibaki died on April 21, 2022. His death was announced by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kibaki served as the third president of the Republic of Kenya from 2002 to 2013, and the first opposition leader to become president of Kenya.

Kibaki died on Friday at the age of 90.

He is survived by four children Judy Wanjiku, Jimmy Kibaki, David Kagi and Tony Githinji.

  1. Charles Kipng’ok

Charles Kipng’ok was the Baringo Deputy Governor. He passed away in September as he waited to board a plane to Mombasa at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

He was to travel to Mombasa from Nairobi for Governor’s induction.

A statement released by Kenya Airways detailed that the passenger developed breathing difficulties before being pronounced dead.

Charles was pronounced dead by the Medical personnel at JKIA.

  1. Former Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut

Former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut passed away in October 2022.

He had been unwell for some time and was admitted to the hospital for long between late last year and early this year.

Chepkut served the Ainabkoi constituency between 2017 and 2022. He was elected as an independent candidate.

He was a down-to-earth MP, highly social and frequently caused surprises when he visited his constituency using boda boda.

  1. Former Mt Elgon MP John Serut

Former Mt Elgon MP John Serut passed away in February 2022.

He died at a Nairobi hospital following a long battle with cancer.

He represented Mt Elgon for two terms; from 2002 to 2007, losing the subsequent election to MP Fred Kapondi. He was again elected in 2013 to 2017.

According to the daughter, Serut had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma in January 2020, and it had taken a financial toll on the family.

  1. Former Kangema MP Tirus Nyagu

Former Kangema MP Tirus Nyagu passed away in February after suffering from stomach cancer.

Ngahu succumbed in a hospital in Nairobi where he had been admitted since January 13.

He served Kangema constituency after being elected in a by-election following the death of former MP John Njoroge Michuki in 2012. He was the first candidate to be elected under The National Alliance party.

He also served the constituents from 2013 to 2017.

  1. Nancy Wanjala Mwashumbe

The UDA party aspirant died in a road accident in April 2022.

Mwashumbe was vying for the Chaani Ward MCA seat in Mombasa County.

  1. Wesley Kibet

UDA aspirant Wesley Kibet died in a road accident in Nairobi County’s Kangemi area on April 7, 2022.

Kibet was heading to a talk show at KASS FM Radio.

  1. Mark Bowen

Mark Bowen, popularly known as Sawachan, was found on the morning of Saturday, May 7, 2022 along the Eldoret-Malaba road.

He was later pronounced dead upon arrival at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret.
