SAKAJA FINALLY BREAKS SILENCE

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has spoken out barely two hours after the Commission for University Education (CUE) revoked his degree certificate.

Speaking during a rally in the city, the Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant insisted that his bachelor’s degree is genuine.

He said the controversy surrounding his academic qualifications was purely political witch-hunt.

The senator noted that powerful forces want to eliminate him from the race after releasing that Azimio la Umoja candidate for the city governorship Polycarp Igathe cannot win.

“They have started cornering me, they are advancing propaganda that I have not gone to school. I have my certificates but they fear that I will trounce their project. It is God who chooses leaders, and voters. We will send their project home,” he stated.

In a letter addressed to Sakaja this morning, CUE Chairman Prof Chacha Nyaigotti expressed that the lawmaker’s Bachelor of Science in Management was questionable.

“CUE has received material information about the authenticity of the degree you presented from Team University that will require further investigation to ascertain the validity of the said degree certificate.

“Consequently, in accordance with CUE recognition Procedures, we hereby revoke the recognition of your degree from the aforementioned university,” Chacha said.

On Tuesday, June 14, the University of Nairobi (UoN) where Sakaja had earlier claimed he obtained his degree in Actuarial Science listed him among notable alumnus. However, his name was later removed.

According to Sakaja, he graduated from Team University in 2016, but in 2020 he was quoted as saying that he has never schooled outside the country.

The fate of the lawmaker now lies with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Disputes Resolution Committee.
