EVANS KIDERO MAKES U-TURN, NOW SUPPORTS AZIMIO

Trade And Investment Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Evans Kidero has now made a U-turn and supported Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance protests.

Speaking during a televised interview on Wednesday, Dr Kidero argued that the leading opposition coalition had the right to picket as enshrined in Kenya’s constitution.

However, he opined that the right was guaranteed if the demonstrations were peaceful and does not interfere with the harmony fabric of the country. He alleged that the right to assemble, protest and present petitions to public office was endorsed by all Kenyans.

Nevertheless, the former Nairobi governor claimed that Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance’s Tuesday protests, which led to setting ablaze of vehicles, one at Southern bypass and another one at Ngong Road in Nairobi was abhorrent.

Furthermore, Dr Kidero argued that the cost of living could not be addressed through pickets but structured consultations where amicable solutions would be found, including ways of reducing the high prices of maize flour.

“As long as there are peaceful demonstrations, I don’t think anyone will object, but burning vehicles on the Southern bypass and Ngong road is completely unacceptable. The price of food cannot come down with sufurias on people’s heads,” said Dr Kidero.

This comes as Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance resume their protests after a few weeks. The coalition’s leaders did so on Wednesday after they send a number of their supporters to match in streets of Nairobi, Kisumu and Migori counties.

The primary opposition coalition are protesting against the high cost of living in the country, especially the prices of food commodities and the need to make reforms in Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to promote electoral justice in the country.
