Celebration have rocked Kenya kwanza camp. Simon Kachapin is the new West Pokot Governor elect after dethroning incumbent county boss John Lonyangapuo.

According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Kachapin won the election by garnering 86,476 votes ahead of Lonyangapuo who got 84,610 votes.

Kachapin was running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket while Lonyangapuo flew the Kenya Union Party (KUP) flag.

The race also saw Lonyangapuo pitted against his deputy Prof Nicholas Atudonyang, who ran on a KANU ticket.
