ANN WAIGURU’S HUSBAND APPOINTED TO A TOP POSITION

Nairobi county governor Johnson Sakaja has appointed renown lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo to a top position.

He has appointed him to be the chairperson of a team that will review and verify the Ksh 21 billion legal bills that the County Government of Nairobi is being owed.

Kamotho Waiganjo is the husband of Kirinyaga county governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru and the chairperson of the Council of Governors.

Earlier, the Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja had questioned the county’s legal pending bills worth Sh21 billion.

Sakaja said the legal pending fees were an area of concern yet the county rarely wins court cases.

“My administration will look into the pending bills because Sh21 billion only from the legal department doesn’t add up. If you look at some cases they are very timid but have their quotation very high,” he said.

The county has been unable to pay contractors and suppliers as it went through a series of changes in leadership, with mismanagement at City Hall nearly causing the county to choke under debts.

Between July 2021 and June 2022, the county accumulated an extra Sh14 billion in pending bills, on top of the Sh85.7 billion as of the end of June 2021, the Controller of Budget (COB) has disclosed. This means that, on average, over the past financial year the county accumulated Sh1.2 billion in pending bills monthly.
