A NEW STRIKE LOOMING ON NEW YEAR

The newly appointed health CEC member Alex Kilowua in Kajiado has met with KMPDU members from the South Rift to brainstorm on alleged doctors’ ‘erratic’ transfers.

In the meeting held in Kajiado on Tuesday, Kilowua represented governor Joseph Lenku.

“The issues we dissected into macro and micro include, pending promotions, and the career progression of one member pending on the waiting list,” said Dr Kevin Rotich on Tuesday.

Rotich who is the South Rift KMPDU chairman said other issues they discussed with the county government are; the employment of doctors, and erratic transfers of medical personnel that are demoralising workers.

Rotich said unprecedented deduction of additional amounts as pay as you earn (P.A.Y.E) for doctors is being worked on by the county payroll department to resolve the issues.

“Other issues we discussed with the county government are access to comprehensive medical cover, access to car loans and mortgages, call rooms and restrooms – Work in progress,” said Rotich.

The South Rift KMPDU chairman, who was accompanied by Dr Isaac Naikuni, Dr Kpraton Shipapa, and Dr Kenfrey Mutuma, said the CBA 2017-2021 impending industrial action was also dealt with.

“We agreed that the county should honour its part of the bargain henceforth,” said Rotich.

He said the issues were well-picked for immediate action by the county government and the union expects action immediately.

“We closed the meeting at the Governor’s office where we delivered our notice of intent to go on strike,” said Rotich.
